GCSE Art and Design (Fine Art) 2011 – Help picking a topic?
This year for AQA Art, we have a choice of 7 topics, which I have narrowed down to:
The Everyday – Urban Life, People at work, The Domestic.
Signs and Symbols – eg. Aboriginal symbols.
Words and Music – Lyrics from a song/ a story, play or poem
The only problem is that I cannot decide between the three and was wondering if you were in this situation, what would your thoughts be to begin preparation for the exam?
Personally, I’d choose The Everyday.
Signs and symbols are highly subjective. Different symbols mean different things to different people, and the meaning of truly important symbols cannot accurately be conveyed to others, they are personal interpretations…
Words and music are likewise very subjective, with the same song having two different meanings to two different people.
Both of these are like trying to sell your individual concept to the teacher and to other viewers…And never reallly succeeding, because everyone will have their own interpretation…
The first one does not necessarily try to make people see something a particular way, so much as it presents the world around us in such a way that the viewer will hopefully think, and then hopefully come to individual conclusions that mirror, or at least better understand your interpretation.
Could be anything from the day of a teenager (find a friend who and photograph their day from waking to sleep. If they work, ask the manager if you can take a few photos of them at work, and take a picture of them every hour or half hour from waking to sleep…)
To a day in the life of a Mom, or Dad, or your pet (even if it’s a cat who sleeps 2/3 of the day…
)
Doesn’t have to be photographs, You could do paintings, or sketches, or make a diorama, or sculpy 3d picture or a collage, or anything.
