Can you suggest some good Australian authors?
My boyfriend’s from Sydney and I wanted to know if there were any notable Australian authors that I should check out. Either fiction or non-fiction is fine, being based in Sydney is a plus. I saw something on Amazon.com called “30 Days in Sydney” by Peter Carey which looked interesting, but it’s out of print so I don’t know if it’s worth tracking down or not. My local library doesn’t have it. I’d like to get a feel for the culture and the people…oh and don’t say “read a travel book” because I have 
It’s easier to get a feel for people through their art and to me literature is a high form of it. Thanks!
Oh and he’s also half-Aboriginal. So if anyone knows about something excellent such as a book of folklore or whatnot I’d love to know.
John Marsden is a really great Australian author, although he writes mainly for teens. One really good series he wrote is about teens who were in the outback when a war started and they have to live there on their on and kind of try to fight but also live on the downlow. The first one is called “Tomorrow, When The War Began”.
There’s also something called “Mutant Message Down Under” by Marlo Morgan which is by a woman who claimed to have gone on a journey with aborigines but the whole things was later discredited. It’s still a pretty cool read.
