Are East Asia and South America really a third world regions of the world?
I mean I recently got back from Buenos Aires Argentina, and to be honest I saw the same things I see in any European or American metropolis.
Huge boulevards filled with expensive stores like Hugo Boss, Dolce Gabanna, etc.
Massive skyscrapers used as headquarters for multi national corporations
Modern highway systems
Subways that link you to all parts of the city
Lots of ethnic diversity on the streets
modern museums and art galleries everywhere
The only thing that reminded me I was south of the border was the signs in Spanish everywhere…. otherwise I would have thought I was somewhere in the US or europe
the same can be said for Mexico city, Santiago Chile and for Seoul Korea.
Yet korea, mexico, argentina etc. are all considered poor third world countries.
Yes, poverty is more visible there than in America ir western europe, but these societies arent ravaged by disease,m hunger, opression and war like African countries.
Don’t seem too third world.
Some of them would be more second world countries if there was such a thing. Urban area’s are first world, but the rural areas are still slums.
South Korea is not a third world country. It is one of the “Tigers” of Asia. They are first world. So is Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong.
Brazil, China, India, and Russia are all second world countries. They will also be industrialized sooner than later.
