Is it Cheaper to make your own Art canvas?
Hey, i was wondering if it’s cheaper to make your own canvas as opposed to buying the already made ones that are expensiveee.
It is not worth the money saved if you end up with a canvas that is not square, loose, wavy, and does not fit a standard size picture frame. So many artists complain about the higher cost of framing but don’t make their canvases standard sizes so they can buy cheaper readymade frame sizes. Also buying rolls of canvas is a bigger cash outlay initially and you must have canvas pliers to stretch it best. Also you will need the proper stretcher bars as well. Using raw lumber from Home Depot will not work properly. If you want to save money just buy when the canvases are on sale. Michaels offers 40% off coupons often as well as other stores. Cheap Joes is an online source that has great prices and many brands to compare prices.
I think buying as you need is better than having an excess of material around getting ruined before you use it.
