What are the disadvantages of tourism for indigenous groups and their cultures in latin america?

Perhaps thinking along the lines of eco/community based tourism (although the common perception is that these types of tourism have only advantages for the participating communities)

Indigenous Ecotourism

On September 7-9, 2006, CREST (then CESD) convened indigenous representatives from throughout Latin America in Quito, Ecuador to discuss the role of ecotourism and certification for their communities. Over three days, participants shared experiences, raised concerns, voiced opinions, and learned from colleagues. At the end of the discussions, the group announced formation of the indigenous tourism association Intiruna, Quechua for “people of the sun”. The declaration was formally presented by the participants on September 9, 2006 in a public forum that was attended by key stakeholders in the Ecuadorian tourism industry.[9]

To follow through on the exceptional developments from this workshop and allow Intiruna to develop as an organization, the participants seek to reconvene in Chiapas, Mexico in 2009 to readdress the issue of ecotourism certification and discuss how to develop tourism models and specific certification criteria that might better protect their communities. Pending funding, the conference plans to include additional indigenous perspectives from community representatives of Central Asia, Australia, The Pacific Islands, and the African Rift Valley. This upcoming workshop in Mexico represents a crucial step in the systematic incorporation of indigenous voices and leadership in the development of ecotourism models, a well as an important steps toward the creation of an international ecotourism network and certification system. Furthermore, the participants hope that these discussions will subsequently involve the development of an Indigenous Peoples Advisory Council that will bring together indigenous communities and ecotourism enterprise around the globe.[10]
